About tokyosumotickets.com
Three different things are sold as sumo tickets in Tokyo: a seat at one of the Grand Sumo tournaments in the Ryogoku Kokugikan, a show with former wrestlers, and a morning at a stable's practice. tokyosumotickets.com exists to keep them apart, so that a demonstration is not booked in the belief that it is a tournament.
Who maintains the sumo pages
Patrick Kühne, an independent travel publisher in Markkleeberg near Leipzig, Germany, researches and updates these pages himself. Sumo is one of several topics in his small portfolio of ticket and tour guides; this site covers Tokyo only, and the tournaments in Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka appear only as dates.
What we check on every sumo listing
For each bookable option we record what you actually watch, in the operator's own words where possible: the Shinjuku and ANNEX listings state that they are not a real tournament, and we repeat that. We note which time slots include a meal (at Tokyo Sumo Beya only the 11:00 and 19:00 shows do), which station exit the meeting point uses, since Ryogoku has a JR and a Toei Oedo station, and whether the booking can be cancelled; the guided tournament day cannot. Where a listing leaves a point open, such as the name of the stable or a start time, the table says not stated.
Commission and the order of the tables
GetYourGuide or Viator pay this site a commission when a booking is made through one of its links, and the price of the show or seat does not change because of it. The guided tournament day is the only option booked through Viator, because it is not offered on GetYourGuide. Tables are sorted by number of reviews; no operator can buy a higher place.
Sources for dates, facts and reviews
Tournament dates and the days general ticket sales open come from the 2027 schedule of the Japan Sumo Association, checked on 11 October 2026; the 2028 dates follow once the association publishes them. Prices, ratings and review counts load from the booking platforms. Facts about each show or visit come from the operators' listings, and the opening hours of the Sumo Museum from the association's own page. Review quotes are real, shortened with an ellipsis where marked, translated where marked, and the critical ones are shown alongside the rest.
What this site does not do
It does not sell or hold tournament seats, and it has no tie to the Japan Sumo Association, to any stable or to the show operators. Seat allocation, meeting times and cancellations are decided by the operator, and its booking confirmation is what counts.
Corrections and changes
If a show has moved, changed its menu or time slots, or a listing now names its stable, a short note helps keep the tables right. The e-mail address is in the legal notice.
